Saudi Arabian Airlines urged to cut costs at airport terminals

RIYADH: The Shoura Council called on Saudi Arabian Airlines (Saudia) to reduce costs at its airport terminals on Monday, including for budget airline services provided by carriers like Flyadeal.

It adopted the resolution during its 27th ordinary session, while urging Saudia to increase direct international flights from King Fahd International Airport in Dammam, to adopt annual indicators to help it become profitable by 2030, and to resolve the status of staff currently employed on old civil service contracts.

Also on the agenda was the report from the Committee on Water, Agriculture and Environment on the state of the Saudi Grains Organization (SAGO) for 2018, which recommended turning it into a general authority for food security.

Gluten-free flour provision was also discussed, as well as procurement processes, global flour prices, gender equality in the workforce and the lack of information provided by SAGO on three of its subsidiaries, as well as the organization’s handling of grains other than wheat and barley.
